Parks and Trails

Alexandria is an active community that offers a chance to escape to the great outdoors without leaving town, with more than 900 acres of parks and dedicated public space.

ParkLink allows you to view current park details, amenity areas and details, recreation center amenities and information, bike and nature trails, request forms, guideline documents, and other general park, shelter and trails information.

Dog Parks

The City provides eighteen dog exercise areas and fenced dog parks for the convenience and enjoyment of Alexandria residents. Unfenced off-leash dog exercise areas have defined boundaries marked by bollards and are designated locations for dogs and their owners to exercise and recreate without disrupting other uses of the parks. Dogs are also welcome in public parks, not designated as a dog exercise area, but are to be kept secured by a leash.

Waterfront and Marina

Whether winding down after sightseeing or jump-starting the day with a morning run, Alexandria’s waterfront is the best place to take in picturesque views of the Potomac River and Washington, D.C. Enjoy street performers, music and dining or set sail with water taxis and river cruises, offering scenic commutes between Alexandria and the Georgetown waterfront, Mount Vernon and National Harbor.
